What a dental technician should take into account:
There is a reason for cases to be at the dentist's office on the finish-by-date in the dental prescription. The dentist needs to check everything is ready for the patient to visit the office, and avoid having him or her leave the office or miss an appointment due to lack of preparation on behalf of the dentist; remember, it is the dentist the one who faces patients and must answer their questions.
A technician shouldn't call the office asking for the actual date of the appointment to have a case delivered that morning because they couldn't finish the case in time. This hinders the afore mentionded requirements a dentist must observe. Calling the office in advance guarantees that the dentist could call his or her patients with sufficient time for them to reschedule their appointments so that these adjust around patients' lives; moreover, a phone call from the lab shows the dental laboratory's concern for the outcome of the case, in addition to fostering the needed respect that must exist between dentists and technicians.
A dental laboratory needs to ensure they communicate to their dentists how much time the lab needs to complete a particular case, so that embarrasing calls do not have to be made to the dental office. That is to say, an individual who does not respect the requirements of a dental laboratory, most likely, will not show his or her respect at any stage of the case development.
